Marquette Maritime Museum's History on Tap series presents John Lenters
"Through Storm and Calm: The Ever-Changing Weather and Climate of the Great Lakes." Ever since the glaciers retreated from the Great Lakes, these vast and deep bodies of water have had a long history of creating and modifying *their own weather and climate. From the calm, foggy season of early summer to the notorious Gales of November, mariners have long known to respect whatever weather the big lakes throw at them. Lighthouses and buoys that still guide mariners' paths are now used as climate observatories, monitoring the “invisible weather” that would otherwise go unnoticed on these immense bodies of water, while also measuring how climate change is affecting ice cover, water temperature, and evaporation. With a focus on Lake Superior, this presentation will introduce you to the mystery and wonder of Great Lakes weather, seasons, and climate - and how they may all be changing. Join us on March 5 at 7:00 p.m., at the Ore Dock Brewing Company. $5 suggested donation at the door.
