The Marquette Regional History Center Special Exhibit:  Logging Marks

November 1—December 30, 2017

Logging was a large and powerful industry that shaped the landscape of our backyards and forests. Michigan law required logs to be marked on both ends to reduce the theft of timber. Rod Smith, education coordinator with the Michigan DNR, collected many of these log marks. Study these logs from around the Upper Peninsula and learn about the logging companies they represent. STAR WARS ART SHOW: CALL TO ARTISTS

The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center is now accepting entries for a Star Wars themed art show running December 15-29. Any artwork that embodies the spirit of the Star Wars will be accepted in this week long, non-juried show open to all ages and experience levels. All work must be submitted to the MACC by Wednesday, December 13, 2017 before 5:00 p.m.

A special reception will be held in conjunction with the Peter White Public Library’s Star Wars Party, Friday, December 15 from 5-9pm. Artists and the public are welcome to attend. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: Padawans 10 and under, Jedi Knights 11-17, Jedi Masters 18+.

Specifications: No size limitation. All artistic mediums are welcomed. 2D works must ready to hang, except for unframed art by youth ages 7-18 that may be adhered with tape. Number of pieces, per artist, will depend on the sizes and available space. Entry forms are available at the MACC or may be requested by email.

This is NOT a race, and more of a fun ski outing with some great beer samples.  There is no professional timing and the only prizes will be for the best costume, toughest to ski in and more!

The Spring Ferment is the rebirth of the former Spring Fermentation Celebration, in a better time slot and now indoors so never mind the weather!  Lakeview Arena will be the new location, and March 24th is the new time.  Tickets are limited, so get yours now.  This is more than your average beer fest; sure we have a great selection Michigan-made beers, but also wine, hard cider, mead, kombucha, and cheese!  Live music and food too.  The first two hours of music will be a cool mishmash of random vinyl, followed by live local bands.  This is a nonprofit event hosted by the Marquette Home Brewers with proceeds being donated to local charities.

STAR WARS ART SHOW: CALL TO ARTISTS

The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center is now accepting entries for a Star Wars themed art show running December 15-29. Any artwork that embodies the spirit of the Star Wars will be accepted in this week long, non-juried show open to all ages and experience levels. All work must be submitted to the MACC by Wednesday, December 13, 2017 before 5:00 p.m.

A special reception will be held in conjunction with the Peter White Public Library’s Star Wars Party, Friday, December 15 from 5-9pm. Artists and the public are welcome to attend. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: Padawans 10 and under, Jedi Knights 11-17, Jedi Masters 18+.

Specifications: No size limitation. All artistic mediums are welcomed. 2D works must ready to hang, except for unframed art by youth ages 7-18 that may be adhered with tape. Number of pieces, per artist, will depend on the sizes and available space. Entry forms are available at the MACC or may be requested by email.

The Noquemanon Ski Marathon (also referred to as the "Noque") is a point-to point cross-country ski race from Ishpeming to Marquette.  The race showcases the rugged and challenging terrain of northern Marquette County.  It is known for it's premiere snow conditions, remote course, and beautiful views.  It is part of the American Ski Marathon Series and CXC Marathon Cup Series.  In addition to the 50K and 24K Classic and Freestyle races, other events are held over the Noquemanon weekend including Skijour, Snowshoe, and Snowbike events.

What is the Marquette BrewSki?  A Happy hour  brewery ski tour of the Forestville Ski Trails.  This is a family friendly event and is open to all ages, ski abilities (costumes are encouraged!).  The ski portion of the event will take place on the groomed and scenic terrain on the NTN Forestville ski trails.  The "brew' part of the BrewSki will be provided by area breweries.    There will be a suggested 5 km loop and the breweries will set up their display, samples, and games out on the trail.

This is NOT a race, and more of a fun ski outing with some great beer samples.  There is no professional timing and the only prizes will be for the best costume, toughest to ski in and more!

The Spring Ferment is the rebirth of the former Spring Fermentation Celebration, in a better time slot and now indoors so never mind the weather!  Lakeview Arena will be the new location, and March 24th is the new time.  Tickets are limited, so get yours now.  This is more than your average beer fest; sure we have a great selection Michigan-made beers, but also wine, hard cider, mead, kombucha, and cheese!  Live music and food too.  The first two hours of music will be a cool mishmash of random vinyl, followed by live local bands.  This is a nonprofit event hosted by the Marquette Home Brewers with proceeds being donated to local charities.
